Cinderella Carriage cake

28 Jun

This is my most recent cake I have made. It is a Cinderella Carriage with an icing figure of cinderella, pillow with glass slipper on it and 2 mice to drive the carriage. I learnt a few lessons from this cake and know what I would do differently next time but I got there in the end. The Birthday girl loved it.

I made these cupcakes to accompany the cake. The cupcakes were to be given out as party favours to the guests at the Birthday party.

Cherry and Coconut loaf cake.

22 Jun

Here is the recipe for a really scrumptiously yummy Cherry and Coconut cake. It is everything that we dream of in a cake, it is simple to make, moist, tasty and delicious.
The recipe given is for a loaf tin but it could easily be adapted to make a larger cake.

Ingredients.

170g/6oz Baking margarine
140g/5oz self-raising flour
140g/5oz Caster sugar
100g/3 1/2 oz desiccated coconut
170g/6oz glace cherries, quartered
3 medium eggs

1) Preheat oven to 180c/350f/gas 4, grease and line a loaf tin with baking parchment.
2) Beat the margarine and the sugar together until creamy, then add the eggs one at a time (beating well between each addition)
3) Sieve in the flour and fold in.
4) Fold in the cherries and the coconut.
5) Pour the mixture into the prepared cake tin and place into the oven.
6) Bake for 1 hour.

Happy baking……..Enjoy.

Shirt and tie cupcakes.

21 Jun

Well today I found myself with a little bit of time on my hands and there was no better way to make use of it than by baking. So I whipped up some cake mixture and baked 1 dozen cupcakes. When they were cooled I filled the cupcakes with chocolate buttercream and since it was Fathers day yesterday I decided to go with a manly theme. I decorated the cupcakes with sugarpaste and themed them to look like shirts and ties. I am going to give these to my dad, I think he will like them.

Guinness cake.

21 Jun

Well yesterday I made a Guinness cake. This was for my mother and father in-laws. The cake is a chocolate Guinness cake with Guinness and chocolate buttercream and topped with walnut halves. This cake is probably one of the moistest cakes I have ever seen or tasted in my life, it is delicious.

Here are some Guinness cupcakes that I made. These were also equally moist and equally delicious.

Icing babies.

20 Jun
I had seen a few of these babies on the internet and just had to have a go at making one myself. It is made out of sugarpaste, making it totally edible (not that I could ever bring myself to eat one). Here the baby is pictured on my hand so you can see the size of it. The baby measures around 2″ long.

I just love making these babies they are so cute and you can imagine how delighted I was when I was asked to make a Christening cake with a baby on top. Here are two more babies that I made, one of which was for the Christening cake.

One thing I have learnt when making items out of icing is always make spares! Always expect the unexpected, always have a back up plan and always always always make spares. Oh and did i mention always make spares.

This is my latest cake it is a Christening cake but it could also be used for a baby shower or anything else baby related really.

More cake creations

19 Jun

Here are some of the most recent cake creations I have made.

I made this Butterfly cake for a little girls 6th Birthday. I also made butterfly cupcakes to accompany this cake, you can find them in the cupcakes section.

I really loved how this next cake turned out. It was for a little girls 6th Birthday and the girl loves horses. I made the wired topper at the back of the cake. It had icing flowers, horse shoes and rosettes with the number 6 on.

This cake was definitely a testing one to do but I had fun doing it all the same. I made this for someone who was celebrating their 40th Birthday and who also likes to follow formula 1 racing. The car was the hardest to make as it is all edible and made out of sugarpaste but after a few failed attempts I finally got it!!!

I think out of all the cakes I have made this was my overall favourite. This cake was made to be auctioned off at a Children in Need fundraising event.

This was a cake I made for someones 21st Birthday. I was told his interests were cars and girls, so this is the design I came up with.

This cake was so much fun to do. It is a welcome home B-boy themed cake for someone who had been working away for 6 months and his girlfriend wanted something special for him when he arrived home.

Cupcakes.

17 Jun

I love making cupcakes, they are so versatile and the possibilities are endless. You can really play with flavours when making cupcakes and as for the decorating designs, themes, textures and colours, the sky really is the limit. Yes you could say I definitely am a huge fan of cupcakes.

Here are a selection of some of the cupcakes I have made so far.

These were some baby themed cupcakes that I made for someone who is expecting a baby boy.

I really love how these butterfly cupcakes turned out, they look so pretty. These were made for a little girls birthday, she also had a butterfly cake which I will be posting aswell very soon.

These bear cupcakes matched a cake for a 1st birthday.

Elmo and Cookie Monster rule….say no more!

I made these cupcakes for my mum. Special cupcakes for a special lady.

These cupcakes were to go with a Farm Town themed cake. These cupcakes were a lot of work and took a long time to complete but I was more than happy with the end result.

Hello world!

15 Jun
Welcome to Sweet Sassy Cakes blog. Follow me on my journey, baking and decorating cakes. I have a real passion for cakes, cupcakes and all things sweet! I love every detail from the mixing of the ingredients to the baking and decorating  to the taste testing and eating them. The eating is the best part by far and all in the name of research, it just doesn’t get much better than this, no really it doesn’t. I have been making cakes as a hobby for my friends and family for around a year now and I just love it.
Here are some photos of some of the cakes I have made.
This is a snowdrop cake I made for my mother in law. The snowdrops are made out of icing.
I made this cake for my son. A New York baseball cap cake a 2 huge stacks of cash……what more could he want (apart from the cash to be real that is!)
Guitar Hero cake.
Star in the Hood sweatshirt top cake.
The following 2 pictures are of High School Musical cakes I have made, both for the same little girl. One was for her 7th Birthday and the second one was for her 8th Birthday.
This was a cake based on the game of Farm Town, complete with farm animal cupcakes.
I made this James Bond cake for my sons 7th birthday. It was kind of sprung on me as he wanted a different cake and then a few days before his birthday he decided he wanted a James Bond cake. After the panic had subsided I decided I needed to keep the design simple, child friendly and fun, this is what I came up with. Everything is edible, even the car. The image was printed on my edible ink printer and I then made it into an icing plaque. I put 2 eyes in the tunnel peeking out so my son could use his imagination and choose any James Bond villain that he wanted it to be. I made the James Bond figure out of a mix of fondant and gumpaste. To accompany the cake I made some cupcakes and once again used my edible ink printer to make some icing images to tie the cupcakes in with the James Bond theme. My son was thrilled.
Mr Men cake
This is one of the biggest cakes I have made to date. It was for the manageress of a golf club. Her husband asked if I could put a bar on top of the cake with the manageress standing behind it. This was also one of my first attempts at making icing figures.
The cake below was a retirement cake and also one of the first figures I made.
This is a cake I made on bonfire night last november. The girl is toasting marshmallows and the boy is eating them.
I made this cake for a 1st birthday.
This was a cake made to look like a bath tub for a young man turning 18 who has an obsession with collecting rubber ducks. The ducks on this cake however are made out of icing.
Thomas the Tank Engine cake with icing fat controller. This cake was for a little boy who is a massive Thomas fan.
This was a Wallace and Gromit, rocket to the moon cake I made.
This was one of the first cakes i made it was shaped to look like a handbag. Both the shoes and the makeup were made out of sugarpaste icing, making everything edible.
Another handbag cake with edible icing shoes and makeup. This one was for a girl who loves the colour pink.
