This is a christening cake that i made a while ago in pink and white.

The top pink tier of the cake was decorated to resemble a patchwork baby blanket design. The bottom tier had white icing baby items all around the bottom of the cake. Lastly no Christening cake is complete without a cute little icing baby laying right on the top.

The bottom tier of this cake was a fruit cake covered in marzipan and then fondant icing. The top two tiers were vanilla sponge cake, filled with jam and buttercream and also covered in fondant icing. The calla lilies were handmade out of icing and were in a coral shade to match the wedding colours.

Amazing Pumpkins!

23 Oct

Well it’s getting to that time of year again when the pumpkin carving kit comes out. As i am still trying to decide what to carve this year i have been searching the internet for ideas. Last year i did this spongebob pumpkin that won me a huge bag of Halloween goodies courtesy of Asda as previously shown here in last years Halloween antics post. This year i am just so undecided on what to do so if anyone has any ideas of what i should attempt to carve on my pumpkin this year please feel free to leave me a comment below.

Anyway before i get side tracked and start babbling on even more, i will get back on track now, where was i…oh yes that’s right. I was searching the internet for ideas when i came across some of the most amazing pumpkin carving i have even seen in my life. So although this post is not cake related i thought i would share with you all anyway so you can appreciate the amazing skills of this very talented artist.

Titanic cake.

4 Apr

I really enjoyed making this Titanic cake. It was also the 1st time i had ever made a cake in the shape of a boat/ship.

Everything on this cake was 100% edible. The cake itself was a delicious vanilla cake with layers of strawberry jam and  vanilla buttercream.

You can’t really tell the true size of the cake from the photograph but to give you an idea this Titanic cake measured 18″ in length and was approximately 5″ in width.

Computer Desk cake.

31 Mar

This cake was for a young man who was celebrating his 18th birthday.

He spends a lot of time on the computer as he is really in to computer programming and will shortly be going to university.  I tried to incorporate all of these elements into the cake through the icing books that are dotted around the cake.

As pepperoni pizza is one of the birthday boy’s favourite foods, his mum asked if i could also add one to the cake.

Here is a closer look at the icing pepperoni pizza that i made.

Everything on this cake was edible and made out of icing.

Standing Spongebob Cake

Standing Spongebob Cake, a photo by Sweet-Sassy on Flickr.

This is the cake that has been keeping me busy for the last few days, talk about a challenge! Infact i think this has got to be one of the most challenging cakes i have done so far. This Spongebob cake was vanilla sponge cake, filled with jam and buttercream and covered in fondant icing. Spongebob measures 10″ wide x 5″ deep and stood at a huge height of 16.5″ from the top of his head, down to his feet. I did have fun making this cake but the stress was immense too. As most of you will already know, tall and thin cakes can be a nightmare stability wise and so unpredictable too. I didn’t even dare breathe too heavy near this cake because i was scared to death that he was going to fall ( which he didn’t of course). I won’t even get started on the car journey and trying to transport the cake but let me just tell you, my heart got very well acquainted with my mouth since that was where it was sitting for the whole journey! Anyway long story short, Spongebob made the journey in one piece and i am totally thrilled at how he turned out. It was a huge amount of work but the end results were all totally worth it and i couldn’t be happier.

Red Dead Redemption, Undead nightmare cake.

11 Feb

Well here it is! The cake that has been keeping me really busy for the last couple of days and let me tell you i absolutely loved every minute of it.

The zombie arm, John Marston’s hat ( he is the main character in the game, if you are unfamiliar with it), the undead bait bottles (Nigel West Dickens Elixir) and the Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare game case were all made out of cake. The pistol gun, bullets, stick of dynamite and the rope that’s around the zombies arm, were all made out of fondant/sugarpaste icing. Everything on this cake and covering the board is 100% edible.

Tool themed cake.

28 Jan

Well guys, here it is my latest creation. This cake was for someone who is a joiner by trade and who is always making things. His wife got him the cake as a surprise for his birthday, so he had absolutely no idea about it at all.

Everything on this cake is 100% edible. The various tools and other bits and pieces on the cake are all made out of fondant/sugarpaste icing.

Ugg Boots cake.

6 Jan

I love, love, love the way that this cake turned out! I had a few stress out moments along the way whilst making it but it was a really fun cake to do.

The cake was a vanilla sponge cake and filled with both strawberry jam and vanilla buttercream. The boots were made to look like one of them was folded down and the icing was textured to look like the fleece lining on that one too. The makeup and jewellery were made out of icing, making everything edible.
